The Pleasure Is In The Pursuit

The anticipation of the drink is always more exciting than the drink itself.
That's why you over drink.
To get back to the natural high of the combination of dopamine, adrenaline and the sweet relief of the build up.
That's why urges carry over.
You can be "good" all week, but you damn well know Friday you are hitting it.

That is why it's not cutting it anymore.
The pursuit and the reward of alcohol are played out.
No new findings.
No skills built.
No longterm benefits.

I tell my clients be VERY clear about your intention for CHANGING your circumstances, and start with a minimum expectation.
For example, you plan a vacation and it gets you pumped.
You get there and all of the family dynamics come with you, including your habitual thinking.

Of course you are going to want to drink.

You have to use the INTENTION you had of planning that trip and let it be your MAIN FOCUS the entire time.
To be PRESENT WITH THE PURSUIT OF THE PLEASURE, rather than expect that the goal it's self will make you FEEL a different way.

You ALWAYS have to be in the mindset of the intention, or the pursuit and DROP the expectation.

The earth and universe will still be indescribably wonderful.
Your kids will still be innocent, and your partner, uniquely the person you fell in love with.

When you get to the vista, stay there and take it in and remember your WHY.
Don't wait for the fireworks, make them with the thoughts in your brain, your words and observations.

This is why will power doesn't last,
and the pink cloud fades.
And you think great, I'm not drinking, but NOW WHAT?

LIFE!
That's what.
It's infinite!
Did you know there is a Tesla in space?
You can talk LIVE to anyone across the world.
One SEED can feed you forever?
Pumpkin spice comes back EVERY YEAR?!?

You think drinking less, sliming down, the kids listening, a new job, will change everything.
But it won't.
Life will still be life.
You will still be YOU/

Unless... you PRACTICE loving this moment and the PROCESS of creating the impossible.

Do it because you can.
Because your human brain is A-FREAKINGMAZING.
Do it because the pursuit holds the real pleasure.
But you have to be PRESENT with it.
It's not just the campout, it's hitching the trailer, because I CAN.

Then you don't just stop.
Sure, you MUST replenish and enjoy the fruits of your labor, but going all in, every single time, winning or loosing,
that is where satisfaction really comes from.
And alcohol, it simply gets in the way.
Every time.
Did you know you also get a dopamine hit AFTER you allow an urge to pass?
Or FEEL any strong emotion all the way through?
Pay attention next time.

It's not a race against anyone.
It's you being present with your heart felt intention in every moment and letting that fuel the fire.

Most of all, do it because this is your ONE precious life.

No do-overs,
Mary
