Compassion Over Criticism: A Requirement For Alcohol Freedom

Why are we often our own worst critics? It’s an old survival mechanism—telling us that staying the same is safer. But here’s the thing: judgment and criticism don’t lead to lasting change. They only build walls around your authentic self, reinforcing the belief that “you can’t handle it,” which is why you might turn to alcohol again.

In my journey, I’ve discovered that the real antidote to alcohol isn’t willpower or self-punishment—it’s compassion. Imagine swapping out harsh self-judgments for kind words and understanding. It’s truly a game-changer.

Next time you catch yourself in a self-critical moment, pause and ask, “How can I show myself kindness right now?” or “What would compassion do?”

You’re already having an internal conversation. Why not change the script to one that brings relief instead of tension? You are the author of your thoughts. You get to choose the stories you believe.

It’s not about mantras or affirmations, it’s about recognizing the truth of who you are as a divine miracle embodied.

Being kinder to yourself does take practice, but I have something to help. Grab my free guide to help you explore what it’s like to cultivate a new relationship with yourself.
