🌹Why Do Holidays Make You Drink More?

The holiday season is a mix of emotions: joy, excitement, stress, and sometimes just going through the motions. If you’ve found yourself drinking more during the holidays, even without intending to, you’re not alone. Let’s explore why.

Holidays often bring gatherings with a culture of drinking. Even if there’s no external pressure, there’s this subtle expectation that drinks are part of the celebration. But for many of us, the urge to drink goes beyond tradition—it’s a quick fix to ease social jitters or mask deeper feelings.

When we get curious about this pattern, we realize we can create new ways to approach celebrations. Awareness is key. Instead of reaching for a drink, we can notice the situations that trigger that pull and make intentional choices that help us feel more present and joyful.

You have to become aware of the need behind the drinking.

This was a pivotal shift for my client, Vanetta. She went from thinking that not drinking was a drag to realizing there was something deeper to learn about herself. She discovered that her drinking had been a way to mask the belief that being a stay-at-home mom and wife wasn’t enough.

As she dove into self-discovery, everything changed. Her thoughts shifted from “This sucks” and feeling disappointed to “Look at you!” and feeling proud. Her desire for alcohol waned daily, and passing cravings no longer bothered her.

To get new results, you must create a new relationship with yourself—and that’s exactly what Vanetta did.
